St. Petersburg’s Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Centre will host the Creative Business Forum on 15 June, the first day of SPIEF 2022. The Forum is being organized by the Innosocium Foundation, the social platform of the Roscongress Foundation, and will address numerous themes with a focus on the creative industries and social issues.

This year, the programme is divided into two main pillars: ‘Transformation in the World and Growth in the Creative Economy’ and ‘The Creative Industries of the North’.

The sessions in the first pillar showcase the potential that creative industries have to develop the economy and focus on promising trends, while taking into account the exit of several international companies from the market and the imposition of economic sanctions against Russia: ‘Filling the Economy with Creativity: Developing National Projects, Products, and Brands’, ‘Education and Training for the Creative Economy’, ‘NFTs: A Market Reality or Short-Lived Hype?’, ‘The Film Industry in the New Economic Conditions: How Should Sustainability Be Maintained?’, ‘Art as an Asset: Opportunities for Investment in Turbulent Times’, ‘Who’s Making Money from Video Games Today and Who Will Profit in the Future?’, and ‘Pirates of the Content Sea: The Future of Online Platforms’.

In the second pillar, events dedicated to synergizing the interests of creative industries and the Arctic theme will be held for the first time on the sidelines of the SPIEF as part of the programme of Russia’s chairmanship in the Arctic Council in 2021–2023. A creative economy is highly successful at forming an attractive investment climate and helps to develop the social sector, which are key factors in creating a positive image of the Arctic. Creative industries ensure diversification and the high added value of local products, reduce the burden on the ecosystem, create conditions for people to realize their potential and find jobs, and support the sustainable development of the Arctic region.

Seven sessions are planned as part of the second pillar of the Creative Business Forum’s programme: ‘The Creative Economy: A New Vector in the Development of the North’, ‘Creating an Architectural Identity for Northern Cities’, ‘Preserve and Protect: Ethnic Languages in Cyberspace’, ‘Made in the Arctic: The Uniqueness of Local Projects’, ‘Opportunities, Specifics, and Potential of the Film Industry of the North’, ‘From Archaic to Modern Times: How Should Culture and Intangible Heritage Be Preserved?’, and ‘Arctic Cuisine: From Complete Obscurity to Mass Demand’.

Video installations, photo exhibitions, and arts and crafts exhibitions will also be held throughout the entire duration of the SPIEF 2022.

“This year, the Innosocium Foundation is offering SPIEF participants an extensive programme of socially oriented sessions, which will enable this social platform to focus on key opportunities in the creative industries and the contribution to the development of the Arctic theme, which are highly dependent on the successful implementation of people’s creative potential,” said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the Russian President and Executive Secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee.

“In 2021, the Creative Business Forum made its debut at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and became part of the UN roadmap as one of the most significant creative economy events of the year. Systematic support for creative industries is still among our top priorities. Today we are focusing our attention on the development of human capital. The unique ideas that talented people have are the main potential for creative industries and should become an effective resource and source of economic growth. I see a unique chance to utilize the opportunities offered by creative industries to develop the northern territories, which are now receiving special attention as part of the programme of Russia’s chairmanship in the Arctic Council,” said Yelena Marinina, Deputy CEO of the Roscongress Foundation and Director of the Innosocium Foundation.
