Innosocium Foundation Presents a Revived Collection of Unique Sculptures from the Imperial Porcelain Factory

The Roscongress social platform Innosocium Foundation presents for the first time, at its own booth at SPIEF 2023, a collection of porcelain sculptures restored according to samples from the collections of the State Hermitage and the Russian Ethnographic Museum, presenting its continuation by master craftsmen of the Imperial Porcelain Factory.

The Peoples of Russia series, the biggest sculpture collection in the history of Russian porcelain, was issued by Tsar Nicholas II in 1907 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the House of the Romanovs. About a hundred peoples were chosen for depicting in the form of porcelain sculpture couples. But the First World War and the October Revolution stopped these plans from being implemented in full: only 74 sculptures were actually created. The historical collection was restored completely by the Imperial Porcelain Factory by 2019, when, in cooperation with the Russian Ethnographic Museum, the factory started creating sculptures continuing the Nikolaev series. It included peoples that had missed out at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as ones crossed off the original list by Nicholas II himself.

“The collection presented at the Innosocium Foundation booth is recognition of the effectiveness of the work by a renowned manufacturer of supreme quality art pieces to popularize the culture of indigenous peoples. The Imperial Porcelain Factory carefully maintains the traditions of the Russian porcelain school and introduces new trends relying on the cultural traditions of all our country’s peoples. I see special significance in the way a company with a history stretching over centuries is to demonstrate the results of development of its thematic collections at the platform booth, focusing on promoting the cultural code of the small peoples of the North”, stressed Anton Kobyakov, Russian Presidential Aide and Executive Secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee.

“We took into account the wishes of many collectors and decided to supplement the historical collection with sculptures from the modern series ‘Peoples of Russia. 21st Century’, which we began producing in 2018.  The first in this series were sculptures of Khanty and Nenets, joined later by other northern peoples. We conducted scrupulous work in the archives and studied ethnographic materials, so the Forum participants are now able to assess the results of our work at the ‘Soul of Russia. North’ booth”, said Tatyana Tylevich, the Imperial Porcelain Factory’s CEO.
